Food inflation will add $420 to the annual expenses of typical Canadian households, researchers at Dalhousie University in Halifax estimate.
The study suggests that the Trump-effect together with the lower value of the loonie will increase costs for families with food potentially rising more than 4 per cent.
Those in Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Quebec, Manitoba and Alberta may escape the increases though and could see lower food prices, the report says.
