Calgary construction industry strong says report

Despite the oil downturn and an easing of the housing market in Alberta the construction industry is remaining strong and optimistic of better things to come. Western Canadian developer Anthem Properties has announced it is more-than-doubling its workforce for the upcoming phase of Waterfront, one of Calgary’s largest master-planned communities. The development, due to be completed in 2018, could create 1,800 jobs in total and this phase will mean work for 250 in addition to existing workers. At the ground-breaking ceremony Calgary councillor Druh Farrell was upbeat: “Building permits for multifamily developments continue to be issued, even in a challenging market.”
