Developer hits back at affordable housing campaign

A Vancouver developer has hit back at a social media campaign that calls for more affordable housing options in the city. The #DontHave1Million was started last year by Eveline Xia to highlight the disconnection between wages and house prices in the Lower Mainland. Now developer Wesgroup has launched a counter-campaign #DontNeed1Million pointing out that, while a single-family home may average $1m+ condos can be bought for half the amount. The firm’s Beau Jarvis told The Province that while it is a marketing campaign for its developments it is also intended to open a “rational debate”. The developer’s campaign has received some negative responses on social networks.
