Edmonton parking requirements restricting infill

Stakeholders in the Edmonton housing market are calling for easing of the city’s requirements for parking to aid infill building.

The city has among the highest requirements for parking in Canada, 2 stalls per home, but the council is considering reducing that to 1 stall in low-density residential areas.

Builders say that there is often not enough room on a potential infill lot to fit a home and parking.

The draft amendment to zoning rules could also include lower requirements in areas close to transit and measures to tackle on-street parking rules.
