Halifax sales slow, prices rise

Home sales figures in the Halifax-Dartmouth region show a decline in July; down to 490 units from 559 a year earlier; but despite the decline prices are going up. The Nova Scotia Association of Realtors’ figures show the 12.3 per cent drop in sales but also reveal that the average sale price increased from $277,898 last July to $284,660 in July this year. The Chronicle Herald  reports that data from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation show that some parts of the region have seen significant downturns in sales: “The peripheral sub-markets of Sackville, Halifax County South-west and Halifax County East recorded reduction in sales of 53.6 per cent, 33.3 per cent and 31.4 per cent, respectively.”
