Non-residential investment gained in the second quarter

Investment in non-residential construction was up 0.3% in the second quarter of 2017 compared to the previous three months.

Statistics Canada reports that $12.4 billion was invested in the sector with industrial and commercial buildings leading the rise while institutional spending was lower.

Overall, six provinces posted increases in the second quarter, with Ontario reporting the largest upturn, followed by British Columbia and New Brunswick. Alberta and Saskatchewan saw the largest declines.
