Ontario homeowners can now get overland flood insurance

An insurance company has expanded its flood insurance policy to Ontario having launched in Alberta last summer.

It means that those with a homeowners’ policy with Co-Operators General Insurance will be able to add coverage for flooding caused by an overflow from a body of water, sewer/water backup, and accumulation of surface water caused by heavy rain.

It’s the first of its kind in the province and will be made available to homeowners in other parts of Canada by the end of 2017.
