Two real estate agents have been accused of “ambulance-chasing” after apparently sending sympathy cards along with marketing material to a recently widowed man.
The letter sent reads Dear Mr. Smith," it read. "So sorry to hear of your wife's passing. Please let us know if we can help in any way with your Real Estate needs when the time is right. Thanks."
It was sent by White Rock agents Linda Shaver and Leanne deSouza who had previously met the man while conducting marketing activities in his street, where they found out about his loss.
deSouza told Global News that they should not have sent the business cards, a move which has been condemned by Mr. Smith’s daughter who posted the letter on Facebook.
Fraser Valley Real Estate Board president Dennis Wilson told Global News: "I think it would be very inappropriate to initiate that kind of connection if you knew someone had passed away in that home.”
