Toll road proposal would fund Toronto transit expansion

Toronto’s mayor wants to impose a $2 toll on the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway routes into the city to fund an expansion of the transit system and road repairs.

John Tory said Thursday that the revenue would be kept in a separate fund which would be managed by an independent board and audited annually.

His idea would need provincial approval and the transportation minister Steven Del Duca said he would look at the plan “very carefully”.
