Vancouver mayor says there’s more to do on affordability

Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson says there is still a lot to do to tackle the city’s housing issues. Speaking after a visit to Ottawa, where he was encouraged by federal plans for foreign ownership data, the mayor said that flipping and vacant properties are among the issues that also need to be tackled. Homes owned by corporations are one of the problems he believes needs to be addressed: “People are getting a residential tax rate and leaving a home empty. It’s a business holding, it’s an investment,” Mr. Robertson told The Globe and Mail, “That’s why I think it should be taxed at a higher rate than a residence.”
