Canadian wages were basically unchanged in July, the latest month for which Statistics Canada has published data.
There was a 0.2 per cent decrease compared to the month before and a 0.1 per cent rise from a year earlier with the average weekly non-farm payroll employee paid $955.
Most sectors saw a decrease in wages year-over-year with education gaining the most (3.3 per cent) and construction also rising (1.9 per cent). Those working in accommodation and food services saw the largest decrease (3.6 per cent) followed by wholesale trade (3.0 per cent).
Wages were lower on average in Alberta and Quebec; higher in PEI, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia; and largely unchanged elsewhere.
