Winnipeg home sales just miss new record

June’s sales figures from Winnipeg Realtors were just two transactions shy of last year’s record high.

There were 1,636 sales in the month and pushed half-year sales to above 7,000 for only the second time in history. It also saw the value of transactions rise above $2 billion for the first time.

Single-attached and townhomes were the star performers with growth in sales in double figures; townhomes saw a 57 per cent surge year-over-year. Residential-detached and condo sales were down by 1 per cent and 7 per cent respectively.

“June is a good reminder of Winnipeg’s affordable housing in comparison to many other more expensive housing markets across the country,” said Blair Sonnichsen, President of WinnipegREALTORS®.  “In our local market which has tightened up more due to brisk sales over the past two months, buyers are finding alternative property types or less expensive neighbourhoods in or outside the city.”

Average selling price for condos has risen 4.59 per cent to $243,184 over the 12 months to June; for residential-detached is has increased 3.84 per cent to $321,420; and for attached it decreased 0.64 per cent to $243,893.
