Movie business tightening supply in Vancouver’s industrial sector

Businesses seeking industrial real estate in Metro Vancouver are finding tighter supply as the region’s movie industry gathers pace.

The rise of film makers in Metro Vancouver has led to a sharp absorption of industrial units and Colliers International says around 2 million square feet of leased industrial space has been snapped up by the industry in the past year.

The main squeeze is in the market for buildings with high ceilings and large footprints, popular with the industrial distributions sector.

“The film industry is targeting the same types of buildings because they want to have large, expansive areas where they can have big sets and also have a lot of ceiling height,” Andrew Lord of Colliers Vancouver told the Vancouver Sun.
