Amazon makes major commitment to Canada

Amazon has announced that it will build its seventh Canadian fulfillment centre in the Greater Calgary area of Rocky View.

The new facility, the company’s first in Alberta, will be 600,000 square feet and create 700 new jobs. The centre will be built in partnership with Vancouver-headquartered QuadReal Property Group.

The addition of the facility will be a boost to the Nose Creek Business Park and also to the wider economy of the Calgary region.

"Amazon's investment in Rocky View County reinforces our role as leader in hosting warehousing, distribution centres, and logistical facilities," said Rocky View County Reeve Greg Boehlke. "Amazon's fulfillment centre will serve as an economic driver for the entire region, and we're delighted to welcome Amazon to Rocky View County."

The news comes as Amazon considers locations for its second North American HQ, with 238 bids submitted including Calgary, Ottawa, Vancouver, Toronto and Waterloo.
