BC premier denies courting Asian real estate firms

Christy Clark says she has not been promoting Canadian real estate to Asian investors. The British Columbia premier’s trade delegation to Japan, South Korea and the Philippines did include two real estate firms, but a Twitter post from Clark Monday stated: “We are focused on growing BC's economy and creating jobs. There is no promotion of BC residential real estate. Full stop.”

However, real estate professor Tsur Somerville from the Sauder School of Business at UBC told the Vancouver Sun that there was no need to promote real estate in BC and questioned whether the firms Clark visited were business investors: “Both of those firms, their primary business is residential … they are not big players in the commercial sphere.”
