Fewer Canadian snowbirds seeking South Florida sunshine

Canada has slipped down the rankings of searches for property in South Florida with Russians now the region’s most prolific potential buyers.

The Miami Association of Realtors says that Canada was fifth in the search rankings in November 2016, down from first in October and second in September.

Canadians remain at the top of the table for paying for South Florida homes in cash (81 per cent).

The rise in Russian searches is likely to have resulted from a perception of President Trump’s ‘friendly’ approach to President Putin although the Miami city of Sunny Isles Beach already has a sizeable Russian population and is known as “Little Moscow.”
