Has Raptors’ Kawhi Leonard bought a home in Toronto?

Most home purchases are significant only to a handful of people but a Toronto transaction has piqued the interest of thousands of NBA fans.

According to reports, Kawhi Leonard may not be heading back to California and could instead stay with the Raptors. You may remember he was traded in the last off-season despite having a year to run with the Toronto team.

Rumours have been building since TrueHoop’s David Thorpe said that sources close to the player have said Leonard will be staying with the Raptors on an 18-month extension.

On Monday, Toronto sports radio host Michael Landsberg said that Leonard has bought a property in the GTA, although no details of exactly what or where.

It could be simply a smart investment by the sports star who was also reported to have bought a property back home in the LA area earlier this year.

Free real estate offer

Plus, if he is staying in Toronto, he would not necessarily have to buy a home as he’s been offered one for free.

Narcity.com reports that Simon Mass, CEO of The Condo Store Realty Inc. says he will gift the player one of four luxury penthouses - at the Four Seasons, St. Regis or Carlton Residences - if he agrees to stay with the Raptors.

It’s also not the first time that Leonard has reportedly bought a home in Toronto.

In September 2018, NBA analysts Pete Yannopoulos posted on Twitter that the star had “bought (not rented) a new home in Toronto. Good news for the Raptors.”

As another Twitter user highlighted at the time, Leonard would be subject to Toronto’s 15% foreign buyer tax.
