An Alberta lawyer has been sentenced to 10 months probation for falsifying mortgage documents. CBC News reports that Surinder Randhawa made the application to TD Canada Trust on behalf of a client who did not intend to live in the property, did not make a downpayment and had no interest in the property. Randhawa admitted that he "failed to provide informed, independent and competent advice” and was given the suspended sentence, 50 hours of community service and a requirement for 10 hours of ethics training. He is also suspended by the Law Society of Alberta. His defence plans to appeal.
