Montreal sales show strong start to 2017

Home sales in Montreal started 2017 with a positive tone according to real estate agents.

The Greater Montreal Real Estate Board saw 2,224 sales completed in January, up 5 per cent from a year earlier and the most active January in 5 years.

“January’s sales increase can be largely attributed to the number of condominium transactions, which jumped by 21 per cent compared to January of last year,” said Daniel Dagenais, President of the GMREB Board of Directors. “What’s more, condominium sales increased in all geographic areas and in all price ranges.”

Across the CMA there was a 6 per cent year-over-year rise in the median price of single-family homes to $297,389; a 5 per cent rise for plexes to $460,000; while the median price of a condo was flat at $240,000.
