New chair appointed at ATB Financial

A lawyer with a background in financial services and corporate governance will chair the board of ATB Financial from January.

Joan Hertz was appointed as a board member at the provincial bank in 2008, serving a full 10-year term until June 2018. In her new role she will provide leadership for the board, set the tone for the governance and management of the board, and facilitate its work. She will report to Alberta’s minister of finance Joe Ceci.

“Ms. Hertz is an outstanding candidate to serve as board chair, providing stability and strong governance as ATB Financial enters a new era with a new CEO,” said Ceci. “Her skills and experience will help ensure ATB Financial will continue to support small to medium-sized business in all communities across Alberta, helping to create jobs, diversify our economy and facilitate access to financial services. Thank you to outgoing chair Brian Hesje for providing continuity and strong leadership to ATB Financial during a period of change.”

Hesje has been the ATB board’s chair for the past 7 years and added that Hertz would be a great leader to guide the firm into the future.
