OACIQ responds to allegations of collusion between professionals

Allegations of possible collusion between building inspectors and real estate brokers in Quebec have been addressed by the province’s real estate regulator.

A report broadcast on TVA Gatineau-Ottawa this week suggested there could be conflicts of interest and the Organisme d'autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ) has issued a statement reiterating that any form of conflict of interest is not tolerated and says it will take action in the event of a violation to the Real Estate Brokerage Act.

It could mean licence revocation and severe fines for any brokers found to have breached the rules.

"As the authority of real estate brokerage in Quebec, the OACIQ reiterates that the Real Estate Brokerage Act exists to protect members of the public who deal with a broker in their transaction. Any broker who fails to meet his ethical obligations is subject to sanctions," says OACIQ President and Chief Executive Officer Nadine Lindsay.

Building inspectors
The OACIQ continues to advocate for strong regulation of building inspectors and is working with the government with the aim of achieving this.

"The OACIQ invites consumers to contact our information centre Info OACIQ for any questions or to report any possible violation to the Act," concludes Nadine Lindsay.
