RLP boss is most powerful in Canadian residential brokerages

The president and CEO of Royal LePage has been named among the most powerful people in the residential real estate brokerage industry – and the most powerful in Canada.

Phil Soper, who is also president and CEO of Bridgemarq Real Estate Services, is placed 11th in the Swanepoel Power 200 (SP200) which ranks real estate leaders across North America. Last year he was 14th.

The former IBM executive became president of Royal LePage in 2002 and Bridgemarq has grown to a business with around 20,000 brokers selling $100 billion worth of real estate.

The company’s charitable arm, the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, is the nation’s largest foundation focused on eradicating domestic violence and supporting the women and children who fall victim to it.

“I would like to congratulate those honoured in the 2019 Swanepoel Power 200. I am grateful to be recognized again this year among the highest echelon of the real estate brokerage industry,” said Phil Soper. “Every leader knows that exactly zero is achieved alone. I am exceptionally proud of my team who continue to elevate the company and the Canadian real estate industry overall through their passion for the business and relentless desire to do more and to do better.”

The 2019 SP200 is headed by Ron Peltier of Home Services of America and the top 10 also includes leaders from RE/MAX, Zillow, Realogy, Redfin, and the National Association of Realtors.

Other Canadian leaders featured in the rankings include Merrily Hackett, managing partner of Sutton WestCoast Realty; Martin Charlwood, vice-chair and CEO of Century 21 Canada; Elton Ash, region EVP of Re?Max Canada Western; Michael Bourque, CEO of CREA; Morgan Carey, CEO of Real Estate Webmasters; and Tim Hudak, CEO of OREA.
