Concerns about the environment, coupled with the growing demand of investors for responsible investing, is helping to drive the move towards green building.
A new survey of more than 2,000 building professionals from 86 countries reveals that 47% expect that most (60%) of their new projects will be green by 2021.
There has been a significant shift towards green building in the last 10 years and in some regions, growth could double according to Dodge Data & Analytics.
The World Green Building Trends 2018 SmartMarket Report shows that, in Canada over a third of builders currently do the majority of their projects green.
Moderate growth is expected in Canada with demand from clients (50%) higher than the global average (34%) with improved occupant health and wellbeing the top reason for this.
“Enthusiasm for green building is clear in all major markets measured, and that is driven by the business benefits they receive, which have stayed consistent since 2012,” says Donna Laquidara-Carr, Ph.D., LEED AP, Industry Insights Research Director with Dodge Data & Analytics. “These benefits include eight percent operating cost savings in the first year and increased building asset values of seven percent for new green buildings, which are clearly influencing all those who do green building to deepen their engagement with green.”
