Toronto among top 30 in Schroders Global Cities

Toronto has ranked alongside the world’s best cities in a new report from a global wealth management firm.

Schroders ranks Toronto 19th in its Global Cities Top 30, outranking cities including Dallas, Miami, Tokyo, and Brisbane. However, Toronto has slipped two spots from 2018.

Los Angeles remains at the top again, beating London, Hong Kong, New York, and Boston, which complete the top 5 cities based on forecasts for growth in the economy, disposable incomes, and population; along with other metrics.

“We produce the Schroders Global Cities 30 index each year to give us an edge in tracking the most successful cities of the future. We believe certain factors lay the foundations for upcoming economic growth. As investors, an understanding of these trends is an essential part of our process,” explained Hugo Machin, Co-Head of Global Real Estate Securities.

US cities dominate the top 30 with Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, San Jose, Seattle, Atlanta, Washington, Dallas, San Diego, Baltimore, Miami, Austin, Philadelphia, and Phoenix also making the list.

“Large cities with broad economies rank well in the index, as scale remains an important part of the analysis,” added Machin. “Marrying idea generation to the scale of a city is why certain cities score consistently well and why they are attractive for investing in real assets for the long-term.”

Global Cities Top 30
