New figures from Statistics Canada show that Alberta has continued to grow in population over the past year despite the oil downturn. In the year to Oct 1 2015 the population increased by 69,835 to 4,216,875. In number terms Alberta was second only to Ontario’s 119,953, but as a percentage Ontario’s growth was 0.9 per cent compared to 1.7 per cent for Alberta. StatsCan estimates that the overall population of Canada increased in the 12 months to 35,985,751; an increase of 0.85 per cent or 304,163 people.
