BC budget set to help first-time buyers

The government in British Columbia will unveil its budget Tuesday and there are two measures aimed at housing. Finance minister Mike de Jong told the Canadian Press that the province will help first-time buyers. That could include easing property taxes and building permit costs. The government will hope to pull off the tricky balance between helping those who want to enter the housing market but find it unaffordable, especially in Vancouver, and protecting the equity of existing homeowners who have benefitted from the sharp rise in home prices in recent years.
