Realtors in Nova Scotia are concerned that the privatization of the public land registry could add costs for homebuyers. The provincial government is considering a partnership with the private sector in a bid to cut costs but the Nova Scotia Association of Realtors says the plan could lead to restricted access to data and services as well as higher charges. Association president Gord Burns said: “Anything that would hinder people from purchasing or selling a home, such as higher fees or lack of access to public data, is something that our members are very concerned about.” The government has not made a final decision on the proposals but stresses that the governance and regulation of the service would continue to be in public hands.
