Real estate agents appear to have lost some respect

Real estate agents have lost some of the respect they had from Canadian consumers over the last 12 months.

According to a survey from Insights West, real estate agents have seen their respect rating fall 3 percentage points in the last year with just 47% of respondents having a positive opinion of the profession.

It puts real estate agents one percentage point below lawyers (48%), equal to business executives, and well-above pollsters (42%), car salespeople (26%) and politicians (22%).

Top rated in the survey are firefighters (92%) followed by nurses (91%) and farmers (88%).

Others connected to real estate fare better than sales agents with architects given a positive rating by 81% and building contractors by 56%. Although not directly connected to mortgage brokers, the closest to the profession was bankers, rated positively by 51%.
