There was a significant fall in permit applications for Alberta homes in March but nationally there was a second consecutive monthly increase. The value of permit applications for residential properties in Alberta was down 24.5 per cent to $446.6 million from $591.8 million in February. The province has seen a 47.9 per cent drop in permit value for homes since March 2015.
Nationally, the overall total of residential permit applications rose by 4.8 per cent to $4.8 million with all provinces, except Alberta gaining. Ontario posted the largest advance, followed by British Columbia and Nova Scotia.
Non-residential building intentions fell nationally by 22.8 per cent to $2.4 million, dragging the overall value of permits down by 7 per cent to $6.9 million in March.
