Could you be on the National Housing Council?

The government is seeking applications from the public for a new National Housing Council.

The council will comprise 15 members who will advise the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and is a key component of the National Housing Strategy, which is now law.

“Through the National Housing Strategy, more Canadians and their families will have safe, accessible and affordable homes. Our Government is looking forward to the creation of the National Housing Council, which will contribute to the success of the National Housing Strategy,” said Minister Jean-Yves Duclos. “The Council will help further recognize and advance the right to adequate housing and promote accountability, participation and inclusion in keeping with a human rights-based approach to housing.”

The members of the National Housing Council will reflect Canada’s diversity and will come from a wide range of experience including housing experts, academics, human rights advocates, and representatives of minority groups. They will be selected based on their expertise and leadership in their respective fields.

Applications must be received by October 14, 2019, and should be made online via https://www.placetocallhome.ca/national-housing-council
