There was little change in average weekly non-farm payroll earnings in February.
The latest data to be released from Statistics Canada shows no significant change in the month compared to January with an average $1,007 for 32.7 hours work.
Compared to a year earlier, wages were up just 1.1%. Seven of the 10 main sector groups saw higher wages on a year-over-year basis, led by accommodation and food services (4.5%), and administrative and support services (4.4%).
Construction workers and those in retail and wholesale trade saw little change.
Provincially, workers saw increases in the average weekly wage compared to February 2018 in Manitoba (2.7%), Quebec (2.4%), Nova Scotia (2.2%), New Brunswick (1.2%), British Columbia (1.1%), Saskatchewan (1%), and Ontario (1%). Albertans’ average weekly earnings decreased by 1.2%.
