Setting the stage

Home staging companies have been enjoying a nice boost to their businesses recently, and it's easy to see why. As more homeowners look to seel their properties faster, they fear that the market may not be as favourable by year's end.

While many real estate agents and separate companies have offered home staging for years, more people are reportedly using this approach to get the best possible price for their property.

“Home staging has become a trend once again, more so in the GTA than in suburbs,” says Lynn Matthews from Blitz Home Staging & Redesign. “Many sellers who want to target a specific market – such as professionals or young families – undertake this, and most of the properties that we have worked on sell within a very short-time frame and generally over the asking price.”

Estimates show that staging a home can add between six and 15 per cent to the asking price. The process can be somewhat pricey, though. On average, it can cost between $3,000 and $10,000.
