These 'guilty pleasures' may be homeownership barriers

The spending behaviours of Canadians have revealed some financial guilty pleasures which may be challenging homeownership goals.

A survey from Capital One and Credit Canada found that restaurant food is the most popular indulgence with around 7 in 10 dining out or ordering takeout each month.

Daily coffee purchases, online shopping, clothes shopping and beauty treatments are all popular spending choices too.

Although two thirds of Canadians say they are in good financial standing, the survey shows that many are off-target for the financial goals due to their indulgent spending.

"The occasional indulgence may seem harmless, but they can quickly add up and actually stand between you and your financial goals, like home ownership or retirement," says Laurie Campbell, CEO of Credit Canada.
